KazTEA
Description
- Kazakhstan English Language Teachers' Association ‘KazTEA’ as a professional organization unites associations both registered and non-registered in more than 14 cities and regions in Kazakhstan, which have been in operation for about 20 years. KazTEA conducts its annual conferences and seminars on interactive and blended teaching, teaching 21st century skills and other TEFL related issues to outreach EFL and since recent times STEM teachers within the state program of polylingual education in various regions of the vast country.
- Transferring to online mode of teaching in the pandemic times revealed that most of the teachers have poor internet literacy. To assist EFL teachers with their internet skills a series of webinars was conducted by the facilitators of the “American English Massive Open Online Course (AE MOOC) Facilitated Sessions” project that was administered by KazTEA and funded by the RELO in December 2019-June 2020. Their experiences facilitators and other educators shared at the set of webinars arranged by KazTEA in May-June 2020. KazTEA continued the webinars in cooperation with the RELO, American Corners, the British Council and within American English Live sessions in 2021.
- As a follow-up of the “AE MOOC Facilitated Sessions” project KazTEA in cooperation with the working group of Buketov Karaganda State university run a research, which is funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK and relates to the role of a facilitator within online courses.
- Regional TEAs’ leaders, teacher-trainers in cooperation with the regional and city Departments of Education and other official institutions arranged a set of webinars re online teaching in 2020-2021. The KazTEA webinars were targeted at familiarizing with navigation of web apps and websites and demonstrating teacher’s instructions and learners’ involvement or collaboration in online learning. Good examples of it could be Google Forms / Docs, Pollevehywhere, Miro board, PadLet, Trello, Canva, etc. KazTEA hosted a number of webinars related its teacher-trainers. Thanks to these events KazTEA assisted hundreds of EFL teachers with internet skills and online teaching.
