SEMINAR PROGRAMME
Saturday 4 March 2017
It is not unusual to hear little or even no English spoken by children in beginners’s classes. This presentation seeks to identify the blocks that exist to producing and engaging with spoken English. The teaching and practice of phonology will be focussed on as well as how simple strategies like the early introduction of class language and the use of songs and chants will not only develop oral skills but also grammar and vocabulary. Teachers will leave with lots of practical ideas to get their young learners communicating in English.
This session will provide an overview of the First for Schools exam, highlighting the testing focus of specific tasks and the relevant language and learner skills that need to be developed to improve candidate competency.
Beginning reading and writing is challenging on many levels cognitive, physical and linguistic. This presentation examines those challenges and suggests strategies and activities that engage children and support literacy development. Tasks based on visual literacy, pre – literacy
skills, whole child learning, Multiple Intelligence theory and fun will be presented and tried out. Reference will be made to Guess What and Super Minds. Teachers will leave the sessions with lots of new ideas to use in their own lessons
This session will show how engagement with primary level Cambridge English exams will help build strong learning foundations for your A1 and A2 level students as well as enhance the school programme.
