Russian Word – The place of successful communication!
The Centre of Russian Language and Culture “Russian Word” is one of the most distinguished educational establishments in its field in Northern Greece specializing in the entire planning, organization and implementation of the educational approach related to the learning of Russian as a foreign language.
It was founded by the Pan-Hellenic Association of Teachers of the Russian language and literature (widely known through the initials of its name in Russian as BAΠPЯЛ) with a view to creating a modern educational establishment geared to take into serious consideration and capitalize on the long and valuable experience of Russian tertiary education establishments in the field of teaching foreign languages in general and particularly Russian as a foreign language. This has become possible thanks to the close cooperation with certain prestigious universities in Russia, indicative being the likes of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Saint Petersburg State University, the National Research Saratov State University, the Russian New University (Moscow) and several others.
Today, Russian Word is actively and successfully involved in the field of teaching Russian as a foreign language, processes and approves material relevant to teaching, is constantly informed about new scientific methods related to learning and transfers them into the classroom while at the same time is working and contributing towards increasing interest in the Russian language as well as Education and Culture in Russia.
Every single student at Russian Word is provided with the opportunity to become actively involved in a unique and thoroughly comprehensive programme designed to develop in her/him absolutely essential language skills and also turn them into participants in Russian culture.
Russian Word is also a place of methodical and sound preparation for participation in the state examination for the certification of Russian as a foreign language while it has also forged an official collaboration with the St. Petersburg State University. Furthermore, through the contribution of reputable Russian universities – its associates, the centre is in a position to recommend to those professionally active in the field of tourism and business a totally modern educational programme for learning the Russian language and their subsequent right to participate in the respective exams leading to certification.
Special attention is paid by our centre to those coming from the ex-Soviet Union who have found themselves living in Greece and whose knowledge of the Russian language are in need of improvement and development. In this context, the learning process takes place under the guidance of a specialized team of experienced educators within an extremely friendly atmosphere and thus under highly favourable conditions. According to our centre’s standard practice, several prestigious and distinguished Russian educators have been regularly invited to participate in meetings of collaboration. Among others, such personalities include Professor S.A. Khavronina, Professor E.L. Barkhoudarova and Professor B.B. Khimik who personally conducted extremely interesting open lectures and laboratories of training and development.
At this point, it should be emphasized that Russian Word’s teaching staff are literature teachers and have in their entirety graduated from reputable Universities such as the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University, the State University of Donetsk and several others. In addition, they all have extensive teaching and work experience both in Russia and Greece.
Another point to be stressed is that in “Russian Word”, the learning experience of the Russian language is not confined exclusively “within its walls”! On the contrary, twice a year, we organize educational trips to important Russian cities which also provide our students with the opportunity to come in close contact with Russian culture since in planning these trips we include not only lessons designed to develop their language skills, especially oral communication, but also a whole range of activities of a cultural character. In particular, in their free time, students are offered the opportunity to follow a diverse entertaining schedule such as walking around town, visits to museums and exhibitions, attendance of thematic workshops as well as numerous other activities. Towards the end of its duration, each educational trip is “concluded” successfully with all participants taking certification exams which are administered for each of the six levels of language learning. It goes without saying that students at Russian higher education establishments, who – upon completion of their studies – will become themselves teachers of Russian as a foreign language, can visit Greece for practical training and gain valuable experiences.
Last but not least, an integral part of Russian Word’s philosophy is the field of scientific and cultural pursuits and for this reason it is purposefully and deliberately given the due consideration. Such activities include regular staff meetings, scientific conferences and “round table” discussions and debates related to the methodology to be employed in teaching Russian as a foreign language as well as organizing numerous events which aim at familiarizing people with Russian culture and traditions. With this end in view, an annual festival is held entitled “Russian Word in Action” which signals the end of each academic year and in which learners of our centre keenly participate. It is worth mentioning here that the latter, thanks to the favourable atmosphere for creation that is fostered in all respects at “Russian Word”, they themselves have created their own theatrical team which on several occasions until now has been enthusiastically received by audiences, performances in which they use their own original authentic Russian script.
The centre of Russian language and culture “Russian Word” invites all interested parties to familiarize themselves with the glorious historic and cultural heritage of Russia as well as one of the richest languages in the world.
